Mortised and Carved St. Elijah Oratory Stool
At a small monastery in France where Fr. John Mary lived they used little stools like this for seating in their oratory. This stool is also similar to the small benches used in the hesychast tradition of eastern Christianity. It can be used as a seat, stand, side table or small altar. We have named this particular stool in honor of the Biblical, contemplative saint, holy Elijah who lived deeply the prayer of the heart.
“Mortised” refers the mortise and tenon joint by which the legs are connected to the seat. It is made entirely from cherry wood, finished with linseed oil and beeswax, and carved with a Jerusalem Cross and Miraculous Medal insignia. As with all our products it is made entirely by hand and with hand tools. It measures roughly 21 inches long x 14.5 inches tall x 7 inches wide.
